Episode 229 Triggering words like CONTROL
In this episode I share an experience I had recently during a keynote where the audience was particularly triggered by the word CONTROL in context to having tough conversations. A very lively, intelligent and insightful dialogue ensued, and they came up with some fascinating and emotionally intelligent conclusions about moderation in our definitions of potentially triggering words, and the consideration of all definitions, even though the first one we think of might be negative.
As we develop our emotional intelligence (one of the top characteristics attributed to success in the workplace...and life) we need to reflect on our initial reactions and explore other possible meanings. This allows us to approach potentially volitile conversations with curiosity, and we're much more likely to have the other person's participation in an emotionally charged relationship!
Enjoy!
